Alabama Youth Ballet Theatre and School
Our Mission:
To provide high quality dance instruction that educates the student athlete in the highest standards of dance performance while also providing accessibility and outreach to the community, and preserve historic dance styles and teach these styles to the next generation of dancers.
Our History...
Alabama Youth Ballet was created in 2006 by Keren Gibb Hilliard and founding director Wendy Graham. David Herriott joined Alabama Youth Ballet in 2009 as Artistic Director, and held this position from 2009 until June 2024, with Keren Gibb Hilliard as the Assistant Artistic Director from 2006 until May 2023.
From 2006 until 2022, Alabama Youth Ballet operated as two entities---the Alabama Youth Ballet (AYB) School, which was a for-profit dance school, and the Alabama Youth Ballet Theatre (AYBT), which was the non-profit performing company.
In 2022, these two entities merged into today’s fully non-profit Alabama Youth Ballet Theatre (AYBT), which encompasses both the performing company and the school.
